Day 1: What on Earth Am I Here For?

  • Point to Ponder: It's not about me.
  • Verse to Remember: Everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.-Colossians 1:16b (Msg)
  • Question to Consider: In spite of all the advertising around me, how can I remind myself that life is really about living for God, not myself?
The word religion has become synonymous with rules. I prefer to think that I have a relationship with God through His son, Jesus Christ. That said, rules, or guidelines can help remind myself that life is really about living for God.

I feel the question isn't a great one. I guess advertising is supposed to make me think that I'm supposed to live life for myself. I agree advertising can be a distraction, but not the biggest one. That distinction belongs to me alone.

That said, I like to surrond my self with physical reminders of my relationship with my Lord and Savior.

I have a tattoo shaped like a cross made out of the words and letters from John 3:16.

I wear a crucifix.

I have clothes and merchandise.

I make sure I can see my crucifix at all times at work.

These things aren't for showing off or shoving Christianity down others' throats. They are to remind me who I'm living for. I need to start taking it a step further and perhaps stop to pray any time I come across one of those reminders and ask God to make sure I remember that.
