Day 21: Protecting Your Church

  • Point to Ponder: It is my responsibility to protect the unity of my church.
  • Verse to Remember: Let us concentrate on the things which make for harmony and the growth of our fellowship together. -Romans 14:19 (Ph)
  • Question to Consider: What am I personally doing to protect unity in my church family right now?
Well, hm. This one is a head scratcher.

There was a bit of disharmony in our church about a year ago now when a few of the church's staff left. I was in the middle of it because one of the staff members who left was leading a men's ministry that I was a part of, and our senior pastor let everyone in that group know that membership in that group would preclude us from positions of leadership inside the church.

At first, this caused a mini rift mainly with the members of this men's ministry, who felt like they had to choose between the church and the ministry, which seems like a choice no one should have to make.

Fortunately, everything turned out great and our senior pastor leads an excellent men's ministry.

During that time, however, I talked to both parties and tried to calm my brothers down from acting out of emotion without getting all the facts straight.

Yes, Mr. Warren. I kno that's not right now. But right now, our church is unified.
